How do kids use their own experience to classify bilingual individuals?
1 hr1 hOnline (Zoom)
Service Description
The study will take place on a Zoom video call with a researcher! A live researcher will tell your child a short story of two islands and two groups people living there. Your child will then classify a target (a child) presented to them on the screen into the groups. We are interested in seeing how much your child thinks the target presented on the screen belongs to the different groups, based on the languages that the target speaks. This study will help further our understanding of language as a marker of social groups, and whether the child’s own experience with linguistic diversity (being monolingual or bilingual) changes how they achieve this categorization.
We compensate participants $3/15 minutes, total amount of compensation varies per study.
After requesting to book a Zoom appointment with our study team, you will receive a confirmation email shortly after with details on the time and date of your confirmed appointment, as well as the Zoom link and any forms to fill out prior to your appointment.
